Winter Guard began at Missouri State (then SMSU) in 1987 with what is now the group called The Pride of Missouri State. In 1997, a second winter guard, National Avenue, was founded, and then in 2002 began the third Missouri State Winter Guard - 901 Performance Ensemble. In 1994, The Pride of Missouri State (then called The Pride of SMSU) earned a finalist spot for the first time at WGI World Championships. Since then, both The Pride of Missouri State and National Avenue from Missouri State have made multiple finalist appearances at WGI World Championships, as well as numerous First Place awards at WGI Regionals and Mid-Continent Color Guard Association (MCCGA) Championships. In 2023, The Pride of Missouri State was the Independent Open Bronze Medalist at WGI World Championships.
Entering our 38th season of winter guard at Missouri State, we are reaching out to ask for your support of our students' travel goals to regional and national competitions. In 2025, all three Missouri State Winter Guards will be traveling to Winter Guard International regional competitions in Kansas City and Tulsa. Two groups will return to Dayton, Ohio, in April for the Winter Guard International World Championships. These MSU ambassadors appreciate your support.
Our students uphold tradition as they carry forward the legacy of those who came before them while laying down their own legacy for the future. To help our students in their fundraising efforts to attend regional and national winter guard competitions, we are asking for your help in their campaign to raise money for their travel expenses. Every dollar and each share helps them meet their goals. Thank you, in advance, for your help!
Please reach out to John Sullivan with any questions about this campaign.
*Alumni who make a gift of $50 to a qualifying area become a Very Important Bear (VIB) and get exclusive benefits, including access to the Foster Rec Center with a daily usage fee and 20% discount on BearWear at the Missouri State University bookstore.
